The Renovated Life

The Renovated Life Series #1

I’ve always loved home renovation shows.

You know the ones—where someone walks into a house that looks like it hasn’t been touched since the Nixon administration and says, “I think we can work with this.” And somehow, by the end of the episode, what once had avocado green appliances and shag carpet is now an open-concept dream home with subway tile, reclaimed wood, and a kitchen island big enough to land a small aircraft.

It’s inspiring. It’s amazing. It’s borderline miraculous.

And honestly? I think life works the same way.

More than a decade ago, I bought a website domain—LifeRenovation.com. I didn’t know exactly what I’d use it for, I just knew the metaphor spoke to something deep in me. Life is messy. We get stuck. Things fall apart. But we’re not stuck with the mess. There’s hope. There’s transformation.

Eventually, that quiet little domain became the name of my counseling practice. Now, Life Renovation isn’t just a catchy title—it’s how I think about growth, healing, and faith. It’s what I help people pursue every day.

Because the truth is: we all have “rooms” in our lives that could use some work.

Maybe it’s your thought life—a bathroom of beliefs that hasn’t been updated since childhood. Maybe it’s a relationship that’s gone cold, like a dining room that hasn’t hosted honest conversation in years. Maybe it’s a habit—that moldy crawl space—that’s quietly undermining everything else.

We’ve all got stuff that needs attention. The good news? God is in the renovation business.

Paul wrote, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV). That’s not just spiritual wallpaper. That’s a total remodel.

God doesn’t just slap on a fresh coat of paint and call it good. He gets into the wiring, the plumbing, the foundation—the places no one else sees—and starts transforming us from the inside out.

It’s not always fun. Demo day rarely is. Sometimes God has to tear down lies we’ve believed for decades. Sometimes He invites us to let go of patterns that feel comfortable but are slowly draining the life out of us. Sometimes the blueprint we’ve been working off doesn’t match the one He’s drawing up.

But the end result? Always worth it.

Romans 12:2 reminds us: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” That’s not just about positive thinking. It’s a full mind renovation. New patterns. New instincts. A new way of seeing everything.

So whether you feel like your life is a total gut job or you just need to clear out one overstuffed closet, hear this:

You are not beyond repair. Your life is not too far gone. And you don’t have to do this alone.

God is the Master Renovator. The Spirit is your Helper and Architect. And Jesus already paid for the project. AND there are people willing to walk with you through the process.

Every day is a new opportunity to tear out what’s broken and make space for something beautiful.

So let’s swing the hammer. Let’s invite God into every corner. Let’s renovate our thoughts, upgrade our emotional wiring, and replace the habits that no longer serve us.

You were made for more than survival. You were made to flourish.

You were made for a Renovated Life.
